Three years ago today you burst into our lives
Bringing new life into our home
Helping us see life through new eyes

Three years ago I rocked you to sleep
The first of many times
As you started to know the place we had prepared for you

Three years ago masked women delivered you
Protected from deadly disease the whole world feared
Your mother might have carried

Three years ago today you were taken from your mother
A trauma wound left by decisions taken
To protect you from deadly trauma of life at home

Three years ago our family grew
Three years ago your mum’s family exploded
Three years on you ask where you belong

Three years of asking where you belong
“I belong to two families”
“I don’t belong anywhere”

Three and six years old
Have become six and nine
It’s been a joy to see you grow

Three years of love, and more to come
Suffer the children to come unto me
Come unto me, children who suffer

Three years ago today our world turned.
